Rīgas satiksme has Concluded an Agreement with Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. for the Procurement of 17 More Electric Buses
Andris Lubāns, Member of the Board of Rīgas satiksme: "The new electric buses have proven their worth, which is why we have signed an agreement with Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. for the purchase of an additional 17 buses, which we will receive in mid-2025. So far the electric buses have been running successfully, operating as planned in winter when the temperature was below -25 degrees and now when it is over 30. The electric bus, which was one of the first to hit the streets, has already covered a total of 25,553 kilometres. They can cover more than 200 kilometres on a single charge – the distance travelled can depend by the route the bus is assigned to, as well as by the number of passengers and the weather."
At the end of 2023, Rīgas satiksme received all 35 Solaris electric buses ordered, which currently carry passengers on 14 different routes. The buses have now travelled a total of 590,650 kilometres, each covering between 120 and 170 kilometres a day and up to 250 kilometres before they need recharging. The average daily distance travelled by all electric buses totals 4240 kilometres.
The chargers provide 120kW of charging power. Two vehicles can be connected to each unit at the same time. The charging time for buses to 100% is about 2 hours if there is one bus connected to the charger. If there are two, the charging time is about 4 hours.
The total contract price for 17 electric buses and spare parts is €9.9 million. The purchase of the buses has been financed by the European Union's Recovery Fund in the amount of €9.7 million.
The purchase of the 35 electric buses was carried out within the framework of the project “Purchase of electric buses for the city of Riga” (Nr. 4.5.1.2/22/I/002) co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union. The total cost of the project is €19.18 million, including Cohesion Fund co-financing – €16.06 million.
